Friday I thought I was in for a low key night of nothing because I still had work in the morning. However, after doing some farmwork in the morning, a quiet afternoon, I was just at the house when Hiroko-san called me from the school and said, "Casey, it is a secret. We are getting pizza. Tell Obaachan you are leaving and come down!" So I said see-ya to the funny looking "hamburgers" (NOOOT) she was making and picked out a pizza from the ad I'd stared at all week. Because I was surprised I didn't take a camera, darn. I picked out a seafood supreme, which included shrimp, crab, and I think some squid. It was yummy and perfect. The neighbor Tak-chan, who is 27 and a tapestry artist, brought over some insanely hot chips that no one could handle. He also said he wanted to take me sight seeing on Sunday, so I said sure but I didn't know where to go. Kyoto came up and finally, it ended with "I trust you Tak-chan. You pick!" It was a good choice to trust a native. ;) All in all, Friday ended up being a surprisingly good night. Japanese pizza may be... weird looking and have a lot of fish on the menu, but it's all good.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a BA in English and a minor in Japanese, I am beginning a new adventure! In June 2010 I am returning to Japan to teach English in Yamaguchi-ken. So this is my roller coaster of mishaps sure to happen and triumphs along the way. Older posts cover my time from June to August 2009 as I volunteered for organic farms for the WWOOF program (Willing Workers on Organic Farms). Everywhere from Nara to Kobe!!
